Our award winning projects

2020 has been a successful year for our projects, with multiple wins and nominations in leading industry awards. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees.

A night of virtual wins at the New Zealand Commercial Property Awards.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 prevented the event from going ahead but that did not stop numerous projects, which TSA was involved in, from picking up awards at the New Zealand Commercial Property Awards.

The Awards are owned by the Registered Master Builders Association with the competition recognising and showcasing the contribution and innovation of the whole project team, and not just the building itself.

The B:Hive (Smales Farm Building 5) was the National Category Winner in the CARTERS Commercial Project Award Category! The B:Hive is a state-of-the-art office building with a shared working environment suited for businesses with one to 250 employees. Providing short-term leasing options over five floors the building uses an adjustable partitioning system to accommodate the changing needs of tenants.TSA provided full Project Management services for the duration of the works.

Also, in the same category, The New Zealand Defence Force HQ fitout of The Bowen State Building won Gold! A proud achievement for our Wellington Office. The Bowen State Building is the nerve centre of the country’s security and defence systems. The project involved the 10-level building being demolished back to a concrete shell as well as a seismic upgrade. Four new board piles were required to hold and anchor two new 10-storey shear walls. In a technique untested before in Wellington on this scale, the four belled piles were linked as two sets by two massive transfer beams. The first six floors were also extended to the north and east in an annexe to provide a spaciousness not enjoyed by other high rises in Wellington’s downtown. The project took just under three years to complete with TSA providing full Project Management services.

Another GOLD of the night in the CARTERS: Commercial Project Award Category was the Airways Air Traffic Control Facility at Auckland Airport. TSA provided full project management services throughout the construction and fitout of the project. The project is part of the Airport’s wider urban development scheme and the building has a high architectural finish to reflect this including a mirror finish aluminium composite cladding. A key challenge was the technical aspect of the multiple functioning building, including a data centre, an above-ground bunker with the capacity to run a 24/7 operation through multiple emergency scenarios and a daily workspace.

Well done to all involved in the projects!

New Zealand Institute of Building Awards

The Airways Air Traffic Control Facility also did well at the New Zealand Building Awards 2020 with Dylan Kane at NZ Strong achieving Excellence in the Steel Construction NZ Projects 10m-20m Award.

The New Zealand Institute of Building (NZIOB) has been running an annual awards programme since 1994. The focus of the awards is to acknowledge and celebrate the practitioners behind New Zealand’s most successful building projects.

This year the NZIOB GIB Supreme Award was won by James Reed of Dominion Construction for the University of Auckland Waiparuru Hall, Auckland. TSA’s Auckland Office managed the project from the concept design phase. A fantastic achievement for James and all involved!

Local Architecture Awards 2020

The Local Architecture Awards honour the best new architecture in each of the NZ Institute of Architects eight regional branches. The Grounds, Hobsonville was the Winner in the 2020 Auckland Architecture Awards in the Housing Multi-Unit category. The Grounds stands out for its clarity of form, expert articulation of materials and elegant interior and exterior spaces. TSA managed The Grounds project from conception to completion. Congratulations to the entire team for this very worthy win!

All this is on top of recent project wins at the Property Council NZ Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards. Read more about those wins here.
