Caleb Baines Baker – Perth
What did you study, and what drew you to it?
I have a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology, and a Graduate Diploma of Environmental Science. I studied both fields because they’re something I’m massively passionate about, and I really enjoyed engaging in the physical aspect of each degree.
What’s something you’re really passionate about—inside or outside of work?
I have a deep love for football (soccer). Whether it is playing, watching, analysing or coaching—I love being involved and around it. Much of my free time is devoted to something to do with football. I was stoked to find plenty of fellow football fans in the TSA Riley office!
What excites you most about working at TSA Riley?
Coming from a scientific background, the ESG aspect of the company is something that really excites me. TSA Riley is nurturing its ESG team, and I am glad that I get to take part in this—as a graduate it is the perfect environment for me.
If you could spend a week working in another TSA Riley office, where would it be?
I would love to visit any of the UK&I offices, to build international connections and collaborate between regions. Additionally, this would let me watch some Premier League football live!
Christina Kwon – Sydney
What did you study and what drew you to it?
I decided to study architecture and have recently completed my degree at Sydney University. This degree drew me in because I was interested in the design component and the ability to create a built environment that shapes the world we live in.
What was your first day like? Any surprises?
I was fortunate to start before the official graduate programme in October 2024. My first day was great—I felt supported from the start and was welcomed with a starter lunch alongside previous graduate cohorts, which gave me the chance to meet the Sydney team and settle in smoothly.
If you could describe the TSA Riley grad programme in three words, what would they be?
To describe the TSA Riley grad programme in 3 words, I would say: engaging, rewarding and supportive.
What excites you most about working at TSA Riley?
What excites me most about working at TSA Riley is being part of a welcoming team where I can learn, contribute, and connect with others who are passionate about their work and projects.
Fergus Lloyd – Melbourne
What did you study, and what drew you to it?
Studied a master’s in applied finance and economics. These fields encourage problem-solving and teamwork. These skills apply to any industry, as all sectors are affected by the same macro environment.
What stood out about TSA Riley when you were choosing where to start your career?
is a large emphasis on social infrastructure and delivering projects that benefit the communities they serve—the end user is always considered.
How would you describe the TSA Riley culture in one sentence?
The culture is welcoming, and people are always willing to answer questions or concerns, regardless of their position.
If you could work on any TSA Riley project—past, present, or future—which one would it be and why?
I would love to be involved in delivering projects for the Brisbane 2032 Summer Olympics. As a huge sports fan, I appreciate the amount of work that goes into large sporting events and the benefit it brings to cities. These projects will be on the world stage, and their success will represent both Brisbane and Australia as a whole.
Karen Tsang – Sydney
Was there a moment when you knew, ‘Yep, this is the field for me’?
At my previous workplace, the architect I worked with recognised my natural inclination to engage in conversations and collaborate with others. He was the one who truly planted the seed for me, encouraging me to explore the field further, and I’ve been loving it!
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know.
I enjoy digital drawing and graphic design on my off days—currently volunteering to create merch for my local church youth group’s annual camp!
What was the application and interview process like? Any tips for future grads?
You are tested on your collaboration, communication skills, and—above all—your eagerness to learn and share. My tip for future grads is when it comes to the group interview, try to shift from a competitive mindset to one that’s genuinely curious and engaged with everyone around you—whether it’s the other grads or the interviewers. This approach really helped ease my nerves and allowed me to show my understanding of the company and business—it’s all about people!
What’s one thing that’s helped you settle in quickly?
Having someone check in with you regularly—shout out to Andrew Neill. Especially during those first few weeks when everything seemed so unfamiliar, it was super helpful to have a consistent and warm person that I could talk with.
Licia Ma – Melbourne
What did you study, and what drew you to it?
I studied a double degree in Economics and Marketing, with minors in Finance and Business Management. What drew me to it was being able to develop skills and knowledge across various disciplines, which enabled me to pursue a diverse range of job opportunities post studies. In a way, I believe the versatility of my degree played a huge role in me becoming a graduate at TSA Riley.
What was your reaction when you found out you got the role?
When I found out I got the role I was actually out shopping—I had to contain my excitement! But the minute I got home, I celebrated with all my friends and family. It was a sense of relief, excitement, and anticipation.
What’s one thing that’s helped you settle in quickly?
The people definitely helped me settle in the fastest. Being assigned a buddy and people manager allowed me to settle in with ease, and having the assurance that everyone is happy to help—but also knowing that it’s okay to ask for help—made me settle in quite swiftly.
What advice would you give to someone applying for next year’s grad programme?
Just go for it because there’s no harm in trying! Applying for the grad programme was probably the best decision I made! The opportunity to enter the industry and jumpstart my career gaining practical experience, as well as receiving ongoing learning and support, to me is just something you can’t pass up!
