ProjectDarwin Airport Automated Baggage Drop
TSA Riley is working closely with the Airport Development Group (ADG), which manages Darwin International Airport (DIA). Our integrated team project managed the successful delivery of a new automated baggage drop facility. The project presented substantial challenges through the need to replace existing check-in counters and conveyors while ensuring uninterrupted check-in operations.
On behalf of ADG, TSA Riley managed 3 distinct contractors, each responsible for different upgrade components and all operating on the same site. Ensuring site safety was paramount to our team.
In addition to complex construction staging involving a three-phase approach, TSA Riley worked with ADG to seamlessly integrate new software and hardware technology into an existing system. This required carefully balancing construction schedules with the airport’s operational demands, particularly during Darwin’s peak season. The project also entailed the coordination of numerous stakeholders, including all airlines and ADG’s operational and security teams.
The result, achieved with minimal disruption to airport operations, is a thoroughly transformed departures area at DIA. Updated and spacious, the area now features 30 new check-in kiosks and 23 advanced auto bag drop machines, all designed for common use. This not only streamlines check-in processes but also significantly elevates overall customer service, delivering a wonderfully positive impact for the Darwin community.
