Beyond roads: Richard Boggon’s mentorship milestone

Mentorship can shape industries and transform careers. For nearly a decade, TSA Riley’s Richard Boggon has dedicated himself to the Roads Australia (RA) Fellowship Program, helping develop emerging leaders within the transport sector. While Richard prefers to shy away from the spotlight, his significant mentorship contributions speak for themselves.

Richard’s journey with RA began at their inaugural dinner in 2008. Since then, his involvement has spanned leadership in policy chapters, volunteer efforts, and, more recently, his work as a mentor. “The Fellowship Program was initially designed to ensure skills transfer and encourage diversity within our sector, and it’s always been rewarding to see mentees grow and thrive,” he shares.

Since 2016, Richard has mentored 9 people, providing guidance that extends beyond professional growth. “You support people not only in their careers but also in life, helping them see things from new perspectives and accelerate their personal and professional growth,” he explains. The Roads Australia Fellowship Program is renowned for its rigour and high demand. “Every year, the program is oversubscribed,” Richard says. “It involves intensive work, often centred around pressing themes like sustainability and infrastructure. Participants undertake projects, collaborate with industry and government, and build invaluable networks—all facilitated through strong mentorship.”

RA is a unique industry body that unites leaders from the public and private sectors across Australia and New Zealand’s transport industries. It encompasses a broad transport agenda, fostering collaboration on policy, skills transfer, safety, sustainability, and leadership initiatives that benefit communities, industry, and government.

This year, Richard marks a milestone as he steps back from his formal mentoring role with RA. But while he may be hanging up his RA boots, his mentorship journey is far from over. As TSA Riley’s General Manager of Infrastructure NSW, Richard continues to guide, support, and inspire every day. His “mentor cap” remains firmly in place—and those who know him suspect it always will. “Helping people and supporting them with their development has always been a core value for me,” Richard explains.

As Richard transitions from his RA role, TSA Riley and the broader industry thank him for his unwavering commitment. His legacy within RA and beyond demonstrates the transformative power of guidance, experience, and dedication.
